Flame And Ash © Sleetwealth



Flame, a young girl of unfathomable power, rides a city bus with her spectral sister, Ash. She'll meet two people on that bus before checking into a fleabag hotel, and then all hell is going to break loose…


And you're going to show us whichever part of it you'd like to illustrate!

Flame is riding the bus when the man across the aisle looks up from his magazine and begins to stare at her. She ignores him. She is trying to decide where to start with this city; so far, she's seen half a hundred places, open doorway hearths leading to rooms with windows painted shut. She smiles, imagining smoke filling those rooms, glass breaking onto the sidewalk below. White towels waving, I'm here. The buildings pass, their brick and stone growing more colorful with graffiti, crumbling more with neglect. The man leans over a bit.
"Where is your mother?" he whispers. "Little girl. Where is your mother?"
She sighs. His tone is not that of a concerned adult. It's something else. Something greasy slick with excitement, nerves. Enticements. His voice is almost a tangible thing, an oily

Choose the part of the story that calls out to you visually; find a way to communicate with a single image, or a single page of sequential art (comics), your favorite part of the story, while staying true to the likeness of the sculpture that inspired it, using traditional or digital tools, or any combination of tools that suits you as an artist.

Entries should be a minimum of 3000 x 4500 pixels, because 1st Prize will include the reproduction of the winning image as a 20 x 30 inch Gallery Quality Fine Art Print from deviantART, mailed to the winner's door.


Entries must be submitted to Contests> Flame and Ash> Visual.


Entries must be received between January 5, 2011 and April 1, 2011


Enter as many times in as many mediums as you'd like.


Final decisions of the judges will be announced on April 11, 2011, ten days after the final deadline.
